The N.C. Triad Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals has named Faye W. Boswell the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser as part of its 2020 National Philanthropy Day awards.
Boswell, a 30-year volunteer with the Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, will be recognized for her tireless fundraising efforts during the virtual celebration Nov. 22-30. She was nominated by AuthoraCare Collective, formerly Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro and Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell.
She founded the Hospice League of Alamance-Caswell in 1989 and served as the president.
The Hospice Home on Chapel Hill Road in Burlington opened on April 11, 1994, but the inspiration to create it began in 1988 with a terminally ill patient whom Boswell had gotten to know. The woman refused to go to a hospital, fearing that her son would be homeless.
The Alamance Balloon Festival, Hospice Golf Tournament and the Hospice Flea Market, which morphed into The Hospice Thrift Store (now located at 2134 Hanford Rd., Burlington), were all established by Boswell.
